In 1973 during the coup lead by Augusto Pinochet, Hector was a militant of the Socialist Party of Chile and supporter of the democratically elected, Presiden Salvador Allende.

Salvador Allende was also a militant of the Socialist party.

He lived in Punta Arenas the last city in the South Hemisphere. In that city the Socialist party was very strong therefore the repression from the Chilean Army was brutal.

Hundreds of Allende's supporters  were arrested, among them Hector and sent to Dawson Island, a cold place where prisoners were tortured and  were forced to build their own barracks.

Hector was detained in 1973 and he was a POW until 1974. In 1974 he was deported to Canada thanks to international pressure among Canadians. He arrived to Winnipeg.

His father is one of the 3.000 disappeared under Pinochet's dictatorship .

Hector is a very talented  and multifaceted artist.  He is a painter, sculpture,carver,engraver and poet.
